Fifteen killed in china coal mine blast

An explosion at a coal mine in northern China killed at least 15 people.

Work safety officials at the central and provincial level said today’s early morning explosion happened in the dormitory area of the Liugou mine in Linfen city in Shanxi province.

The cause of the blast is still under investigation. It is not yet clear whether the mine was licensed.

The state-run Xinhua News Agency said another 20 people were injured in the explosion.

China’s mining industry is by far the world’s deadliest. Accidents and blasts killed more than 2,600 coal miners last year.
